I've always thought that the Red Sox fans have much in common with the old southern loyalists. Both groups worship a lost cause, believe heavily in the doctrine of original sin, and faithfully subscribe to a romantic view of history. Old triumphs are carefully guarded and immortalized, and old defeats are endlessly replayed and critiqued. From "Ballpark Blues" by C.W. Tooke

\Ive learned a lot about myself in a very short time and if I ever take anything for granted, I just need to look at the people who show courage on a daily basis. They deserve all the respect and admiration in the world. -Nick Boynton-Ironically enough, thats how many would describe Boynton himself.

"I got stitches this week, but they took them out last night so I am looking beautiful again. I took a high stick last Saturday in Pittsburgh and it got me for four stitches. I keep getting black eyes in that eye from some reason, so I guess that is my bad side!" - Joe Thornton

"You can't describe it. As a player, you want to stay on an even keel for six months. And the fans here don't do that. The fans here you win a game, you're going to win a World Series. You lose two games in a row, that's it, here we go again, they're going to do this to us again and the season's done. They live and die with the Red Sox." -Lou Merloni

'Let's face it, it got ugly sometimes in that clubhouse late in the season. But that only happened out of frustration, because everyone in there knows how good this team could be. We are ready to put last season in the past and make sure it doesn't happen again this season.' -Brian Daubach

"Well, we'd probably have to spend the night in the clubhouse. Fenway Park is old, maybe the fans would tear down the stadium. But it would be the biggest thing the town has ever seen. It would be incredible." -Shea Hillenbrand on what would happen if the Red Sox won the World Series.

"Winning a title there would be an amazing thing for Boston. I know the Patriots won a title, but it doesn't compare to the Red Sox. That's what makes it fun playing in a place like this. I grew up in L.A. and you can't even compare it. Playing in Boston is just a tremendous thing that you can't even imagine." -Shea Hillenbrand

''I love Nick, the boy's crazy, but you don't want anything to happen...I had my money on Boynts over anyone, but you don't want him in that situation with 10 games left. I wasn't doubting him whatsoever. I just don't want to see a guy of his stature get hurt. That's not his job to go out and do that. He's against one of the toughest guys in the league, probably in the top two. ''- PJ Stock
